During my career, I have spent a lot of my time on education that is focused on an audience either already within the gem and jewellery industry, or those that are making an effort to become a part of it. It is very easy to get pigeon-holed here, however, it is important that every one of us in the industry remember that it took something to capture our own initial interest. That one thing could just be a YouTube video.
Indeed, some people are born into the gem and jewellery industry and spent formative years in a retail or workshop environment surrounded by gems and jewellery and heavily influenced by family. But we were not all that lucky and we have to acknowledge the role of social media and in particular, video, in our lives today. Is there anyone among us who has not watched some riveting content on YouTube that has taught us something we might never have considered…and I do not just mean “The Best Way to Clear A Blocked Drain Without Chemicals”!
Gemstones.com on YouTube
One of the hugely successful initiatives run by Gemstones.com at JTV, was the Gemstones.com YouTube channel. The key to its success has been delightfully engaging content that is primarily educational, but has been unafraid to engage in pure entertainment to widen its audience and hopefully attract more people to the amazing world of gems and gemstones.
The numbers speak for themselves with over 50 million views for the channel. With the incredible talents of an amazing team focused on producing incredible content, the channel currently has over 700 videos that have garnered the loyal following of over a quarter of a million subscribers. The attention to detail leaves nothing to chance with every element of the videos from sound, lighting, graphics, production and editing, all being of the highest quality. Take a look at the channel by clicking the button below.
I was a guest on a number of these videos (they can be found below) and I am proud to say one of those, despite being out for less than a year on the seven-year-old channel, is already inside the top thirty most-viewed.
