Talking to the Trade

When I was approached to write an article for The Jewelers Collective, I asked myself, what do we not talk about enough in our industry?

Having the good fortune of speaking to many industry experts over the years, one of my favourite questions is to enquire as to what we (meaning the wider industry) are not talking about enough. With this question I try to coax out an insight into what an expert might be seeing as a looming problem or simply a neglected area. When Gloria Maccaroni, the editor-in-chief of The Jewelers Collective, a leading jewelry industry publication in the United States, approached me to provide an article for this holiday edition, that was the question I asked myself. The answer, for me, is always melee: the supply, the grading and the consumption of it in the gem and jewellery industry. I kept it light, but I hope I managed to get a few important points across by quoting a couple of key players in our industry, Bruce Bridges of AGTA and Bridges Tsavorite, and diamond industry analyst Paul Zimnisky of The Paul Zimnisky Diamond Analytics Podcast.
